Orissa TV, the main TV channel in the state of Orissa (India), recently decided to accelerate its transition to a digital content creation and broadcast automation environment. This is the 1st Indian channel to select a complete vsnnews and vsnmatic configuration to increase the operational efficiency through standard IT technology.
Orissa TV staff have been thoroughly searching and testing different manufacturers to find the right partner for their digital transition without compromising their budget for years. The need for speed in the content creation process as well as the easy solutions to integrate different broadcast modules seamlessly were critical issues to shift Orissa TV towards the vsn solutions.
The agreement includes a master control room based on vsnmatic, a complete MAM system featuring vsnarchive and the biggest vsnnews system installed in the subcontinent so far. The live production system integrates 7 network postproduction cabins, 10 journalist-editors workstations (all tools for rundown, text and video editing in one single place) one 600-hour shared videoserver (‘daily’, mirror-protected), 4 automatic simultaneous filing channels, a studio playout, integrated graphic generator and synchronized teleprompter.
Orissa TV has the project to migrate from a DV tape environment to a P2/XDCAM based workflow so vsn was the right choice to adapt to both setups and also facilitate the migration with a single system. Not less important were the fast and easy customization to their needs and, specially, the affordability of the complete solution, in terms of capital investment and also running cost.
As the vsn solution developped for Orissa TV is standard IT, the intended scaleability in the near future is also guaranteed. This system is currently being deployed and commissioned by vsn engineers along with vsn’s Indian partner VTI (Visual Technologies India) that will provide the on-site support.
