The vsndata collector software is installed in the VSN graphic servers (vsncg and vsncg+) to automatically show external information on-air through specially designed graphic templates. It can be used to show incoming headlines, stock exchange info, agenda, public service info, etc., from sources such as RSS, XML, etc.

vsndata collector enables a very powerful, yet easy to use 'tickers' operation that can also be fully automated by the playlist. This tool allows the use of graphic icons to separate the different items in the text scroll.

Among the information sources supported by vsndata collector we can highlight:

• Information providers such as Reuters, EFE, AFP, SANA, TELAM, DyN, etc. Available through a built-in plugin.
• VSN's sms module: vsnsmsTV
• Data sources via RSS or XML.

RSS is based in the XML standard, developed specifically for news sites and weblogs which are updated very frequently and therefore need an easy-to-use information exchange system.

The software that gathers and displays RSS data sources from different providers is named "aggregator". vsndata collector is a special kind of aggregator with added value. It is able to display RSS contents over the video signal to be broadcasted.
