2020 will undoubtedly be remembered by several generations as a period of great challenges in the face of adverse circumstances in almost all areas of our daily lives. The year has certainly been a complicated one for the entire Broadcast & Media industry, and VSN has been no exception. However, this year has shown us how important it is to maintain the values that have led us to this point in recent decades, such as total customer orientation, the effort to maintain 100% of our activity at all times and the constant motivation to offer innovative and efficient technological solutions.
1. We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a new website and corporate image
It has been a long time since VSN made a name for itself as one of the pioneering companies in the Broadcast & Media industry thanks to the introduction of the tapeless concept, and 2020 has commemorated the anniversary of several decades of achievements, projects, international expansion and daily commitment. The pandemic did not prevent us from presenting a new website and corporate image with a completely renewed and more intuitive design for our clients, partners and collaborators.
2. The digital alternative that is becoming less so
The first half of 2020 was a real earthquake for everyone. A situation of confinement or alarm in many countries of the world was added to a totally uncertain panorama and the cancellation of all the multitudinous events, which for the industry of Broadcast & Media meant the annulment of one of the most important meetings of the year, NAB Show Las Vegas. However, at VSN we seized the opportunity to open new communication channels with our audience, first through the successful digital event VSN Wired, full of demos, contents and on-demand meetings; and soon after with the launch of VSN Play, our own VoD where users can find all kinds of contents (webinars, case studies, training videos, etc.) on demand.
3. Complete solutions for the entire media lifecycle
Along with the new website, we also presented a new way of offering our services through VSN’s solutions for archiving, exchange, distribution and automation, planning, media production and news. These solutions, conceived to cover each part of the media lifecycle, are composed of different VSN systems and products which, always in an integrated, open and scalable way, allow to solve any audiovisual need and adapt to the current needs of our customers for a better understanding of their interoperability.
4. More projects than ever
Despite the obvious difficulties with which 2020 will be remembered, we have managed to increase the number of projects by more than 30%, well over a hundred. Moreover, the assessment of these projects has also been higher (8.8 on average), so we have not only maintained the usual quality standard in a complicated context, but we have also managed to surpass it in a larger sample.
5. Featured projects: from Europe to Asia and beyond
Of course, some projects, whether because of their complexity, geographical area or magnitude, have been more outstanding than others, although our commitment to all of them is exactly the same. This year we would like to highlight especially the pioneering nature of RTVE’s cloud content management project, the completeness of the solution installed for the Georgian channel Formula TV and the remote challenge of EBU Washington, without forgetting new milestones in Asia, such as the playout solution for SET Taiwan or the production system for PTS. Finally, we cannot forget about new verticals that have emerged from the world of gaming and e-sports, such as the new Riot Games Brazil archive or the uninterrupted broadcast provision for Top Gamers Academy.
6. Availability and confidence to present our solutions and products
Not only has the number of projects increased considerably this year, the number of demos and total PoC (Proof of Concept) also increased compared to 2019, adding nearly 200 (+11.5%), which have also been very positively rated by their audience (9,15 on average).
7. VSN behind the scenes: a peek to our everyday work
Considering that we have all been more physically distant than ever, we took advantage of the occasion to introduce you to the day-to-day and all the processes and dynamics involved in a media project from the inside, starting with sales, going through product development and ending with project implementation, outlining the values and guidelines that drive us to provide the best possible customer orientation through three key members of our team.
8. Our partners also jumped into the spotlight
Although in the future we will work to give more relevance to the collaboration we have with various partners around the world, 2020 was the first step not only to know them better, but also to discover their valuable views on the industry that we can now share thanks to the series of interviews The Key TechAway, which we started with Magnum Solutions in October and will undoubtedly continue in 2021 given its good reception.
9. Service continuity, one of our top priorities
As our Support Director revealed mid-year, once we understood the panorama generated by the COVID-19 our goal was to provide fast and effective solutions for a whole scenario of requests for changes in workflows and, of course, their remote enablement. Taking into account the average rating that our support service obtained this year – 9.6, the best of the last five years – we can safely say that we have surpassed expectations.
10. Quality as a standard
Of course, we could not say goodbye to 2020 without mentioning the renewal of the ISO 9001: 2015 certification, which accredits the quality of our internal processes of technological development and customer satisfaction.
