The Colombian TV channel Canal Uno selects VSN to optimize its broadcast, production and archive

The renewed Colombian open television will start operations on May 1st thanks to a complete VSN system for automation of master control room, content production, storage and archive that will be implemented together with Commercial Curaçao and supervised by the engineering company Seel.

After an arduous evaluation process that analysed factors such as the supplier’s experience, the robustness of the proposed solutions, sales support, ease of use, price and delivery times, Canal Uno chose to grant the project for continuity automation, production and archive to the company Comercial Curaçao, VSN’s official dealer in Colombia, that has successfully implemented more than 20 projects in the country so far.

A VSNMulticom automation system with redundant configuration was installed at Canal Uno facilities, in order to manage the channel's continuity automation.

Among the solutions acquired by Canal Uno is the VSNCrea TV traffic system to manage all content programming and the channel’s advertising. Regarding the broadcast, a VSNMulticom automation system with redundant configuration was installed to be in charge of controlling two PlayOut servers Harmonic Media Deck in mirror configuration and a Chyron graphics generator.

In the production environment, VSNSpider architecture together with the VSNExplorer PAM solution were implemented to manage the channel’s workflows thanks to 15 licenses for low-res content viewing, cataloging and video editing. In addition, the project also included 7 additional licenses for high-resolution editing in Adobe Premiere CS and another two for the Adobe graphics suite, thanks to the custom integration developed by VSN between the systems of this provider and VSNExplorer PAM. This workflow allows users to work directly on two content storages: one of 32TB for all finished material and one of 64TB including the raw material for editing.

In regards of the storage, the project included a Qualstar robotic library with 24 slots and 2 LTO-7 fiber drives managed by VSNExplorer Archive and controlled by SGL, which will work as a hardware security module (HSM).

“Developing this project has been a great challenge. It is truly a reflection of our constant dedication to the region’s customers, where we have one of the largest market share after 11 continuous years growing” says Mario Díaz, Global Sales VP of VSN. “We are grateful to Canal Uno for the trust placed in VSN as part of this historic project in Colombia,” added Díaz.

The installation carried out by VSN in Canal Uno will be for the first time on air on the 1st of May, 2017.
