The Mexican communication services provider trusted again VSN for digitalizing its channels, this time in Bogotá. In the complex process that a technological change like this represents, the robustness and the easiness of implementation/operation of the VSN solution were the main reasons for this choice.
It is worth mentioning that the VSN-Telmex business relationship started some years ago, when 2 of the company channels in Lima-Perú were automated. The strength and robustness that the performance of the servers and automation software has shown in 24×7 environments has been recognized by the engineers of the Mexican company.
The system that has been installed at the new Magdalena facilities includes three SD/HD servers for 1 ingest channel and 2 playout channels, which share a centralized 16TB fiber storage that allows the production and broadcast of six (6) channels (5 on-air channels + 1 spare channel).
All server channels are automated by the control software vsnmulticom, the powerful solution that allows to control all the elements which take part in the broadcast playout process (4 VTR, 5 Master Switchers, 5 character generators, 1 router).
The contents are directly ingested by the VMAX servers and stored in the centralized storage system. Five (5) editing stations FINAL CUT PRO allow the access to them. After their editing/post-production, the contents can be copied back again to each channel.
One of the advantages of the VSN workflow is that it allows to work in a collaborative environment, where all devices can be accessed from anywhere in the network according to administration privileges.
The integration with native code editing machines based on MAC platforms has been crucial in order not to interrupt the production process, which do not use any video tape.
